John Byrne joined TBR in 2005 as a Senior Analyst and was appointed Director of the telecoms/networks practice area in 2007. TBR’s telecoms/networks group benchmarks the operational and financial performance of telecom infrastructure vendors (including Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks, Cisco, Huawei and ZTE), handset manufacturers (including Nokia and Samsung), systems integrators operating in the telecommunications space (including IBM, HP and Accenture), as well as network operators (including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, Comcast and Time Warner Cable).

John researches trends in the wireless, wireline and cable industries, with a particular focus on the current convergence of fixed and mobile networks and the development of new converged telco products and services to serve network and enterprise customers. In addition, the telecoms/networks practice area has expanded coverage to address the intersection of the mobile and Internet environments, including coverage of Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.

Prior to joining TBR, John worked as an Analyst/Consultant at Kagan Research from 1999 to 2005. He wrote four wireless industry newsletters each month and provided valuation consulting services to the wireless industry. Previous work includes three years organizing B2B conferences in finance, government and logistics for the Center for Business Intelligence in Woburn, Mass.

John is a frequent commentator in wireless trade journals, business publications and newspapers, including Wireless Week, RCR News, Business Week, The New York Times, USA Today and Chicago Tribune. He graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in political science and minors in economics and international relations, and obtained a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
